My Favorite Time Of Year

Fall is my favorite season. I love the leaves changing color, the pumpkins, and the cool, crisp weather. This morning the girls and I decided to go outside and play in the leaves. Our little tree doesn't produce enough to jump in, but we still had fun looking at them.
When we came inside, Rylie made a tree on paper and glued some of her leaves on it. It turned out super cute.
My Mom had given me some foam stamps, some of which were fall shapes. The girls used paint and made Birthday cards for Auntie Pam and other fun pictures.
Rylie loves Pre K but it's also nice to have a day off during the week so we can do these things together. I love Fall!

My Little Bunny

Sunday night we had another church come to ours to put on a Children's Program. Since it was a play about Noah's Ark they asked for children from our church to volunteer to be animals. Rylie was very excited to be an animal. Her and her buddy, Andrew got to be bunnies. I think they are adorable! See the post below for more pictures.

Be Willing

"Let us seek in our daily practical Christianity to exercise the same blessed spirit of faith which we see in the virgin Mary. Let us be willing to go anywhere and do anything and be anything, whatever the present and immediate inconvenience, so long as God's will is clear and the path of duty is plain." (J.C. Ryle)

Free Stuff

Here are some of the things I have gotten for free in the mail this past couple of weeks! I love free stuff. My favorite thing that I have gotten recently was a GeoTrax DVD with four cartoon episodes on it. I'm saving it for Christmas for the girls.
Some of these things are sample size, but I have gotten regular size items for free too. I have gotten a free bottle of catsup, box of waffles, box of cereal, package of hot dogs, chocolate, dishwasher detergent, etc. I love it!
See my post here on how you can get some free things too!

Apples

When I was visiting my Grandparents last week, I picked two big boxes full of apples from their tree. I was so excited to get that much fruit for free! (I'm pretty much a sucker for anything free!)
I have been trying to get them all processed so they don't go bad. The girls have eaten some of them whole, but they are a little tart so they usually don't finish them.
I have used up one box so far. I have made three crock pots full of applesauce. It is so yummy and it smells so good while it's cooking. We have been eating some of it, but I also put a lot of it in the freezer.
I also put several sliced, peeled pieces in the freezer to pull out whenever I want to make a crisp or pie.
I borrowed my Mother in law's dehydrator and made some apple chips also.
I'm planning on doing more of all of these things, but I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas of things I could do with them to either use them or preserve them. I would love to hear your ideas!

Anna's Dr. Appt and My Cubbie

Tonight was Rylie's first night back at Cubbies. It was Parent's VIP night and she chose to have her Daddy go with her. At one point they were sharing things that they loved (kittys, etc) and Rylie said that she loved her Daddy.
She is excited about the prospect of completing a new book this year. She also loves being with her friends and her cousin (and best friend), Abby. The picture of the little boy is her buddy, Declan.
Her vest looks a little shorter than last year! She's my growing girl! She starts Pre K tomorrow!!!
Anna had her well baby check up today. She is in the 60% for height (32in) and 20% for weight (22lbs). She wasn't too concerned about her weight this time, which was a relief. Usually we have to come back for weight checks because she is underweight. She is progressing in her growth though, so she's doing good.
The doctor was impressed by her vocabulary. When she walked in the room, Anna said "Johnson" which is the name of her doctor.
Her doctor reviewed her history and we discussed all of her unexplained high fevers. The doctor said that Anna's blood tests and growth progression and things are not indicative of cancer, which of course was a huge relief. I wasn't too worried about that being a possibility, but the last doctor we saw at the convenience care clinic had said that was one of the things they were testing for, so it was nice to know that is ruled out.
The doctor said it was probably just an atypical virus that is going around her age group this summer. However, she did have some wheezing in her lungs (and a cough) so she was curious about her lungs. She gave her a breathing treatment (which Anna threw a fit about) and her lungs sounded great after that. She said that if her cough doesn't go away or if she has another one of those high fevers that she wants a chest x-ray. She said there is a possibility that all of this could be related to something in her lungs.
I was kind of hoping to know something more definitive, but I was relieved that her primary doctor wasn't overly concerned. She said I could give her some stronger multivitamins so hopefully that will help this cold and flu season. Now I just need to get her to eat more of those good vitamin packed veggies. . .

Grandma's 84th Birthday

This past week, my Mom and the girls and I went to Oregon to celebrate my Grandma's 84th Birthday. We had a little party for her on her actual Birthday and then a big party the next day. Rylie got to meet her second cousin, Cymbree for the first time. They hit it off immediately. It was so cute to watch them holding hands and playing hide and seek.
Anna had fun too, her and Great Grandpa played peek a boo. She is sad in the picture because her ice cream and cake were gone!
My Grandma wanted to play cards for her Birthday, so my Aunt Dory came over each night to play us. We played Hand and Foot until two in the morning. Grandma and I won three out of five! It was a lot of fun to watch Grandma giggle and have fun.
Please pray for her, she has her second round of aggressive chemo tomorrow morning. The morning we left she lost a couple hand fulls of hair and was really disappointed about that. Pray for her and Grandpa's salvation!

How To Read Ten Books A Year. . .

“Suppose you read slowly like I do--maybe about the same speed that you speak--200 words a minute. If you read fifteen minutes a day for one year (say just before supper, or just before bed), you will read 5,475 minutes in the year. Multiply that by 200 words a minute, and you get 1,095,000 words that you would read in a year. Now an average serious book might have about 360 words per page. So you would have read 3,041 pages in one year. That’s ten very substantial books. All in fifteen minutes a day.”( John, Piper; When I Don't Desire God, p. 129)
