Ice Cream Cone Day

Last week was the anniversary of the invention of the ice cream cone. It was invented in 1903 in New York. Here in the Wood Homeschool, we felt like that was something that should be celebrated! Along with our normal schoolwork, we also made our own paper ice cream cones and did an ice cream worksheet. Rylie also made an ice cream cone with her skip counting numbers on it. I thought that was cute! And of course we had ice cream cones for our snack!

Apple Day

Today, I had a couple other Homeschool families over for an "apple day". I read them a book about Johnny Appleseed, and we used paint and apples to make pictures and placemats. We also had some apple themed coloring sheets and word searches the kids could do. Then we shared a potluck lunch that of course included apple juice, applesauce, and apple crisp! (Somehow I didn't get pictures of everyone. :( )
It is so much fun being able to Homeschool! (and for the record, Rylie also did her math, phonics, latin, history, and penmanship today, it wasn't just fun time.)

Encouragement

"I think I find most help in trying to look on all the interruptions and hindrances to work that one has planned out for oneself as discipline, trials sent by God to help one against getting selfish over one's work. Then one can feel that perhaps one's true work--one's work for God--consists in doing some trifling haphazard thing that has been thrown into one's day. It is not a waste of time, as one is tempted to think, it is the most important part of the work of the day--the part one can best offer to God. After such a hindrance, do not rush after the planned work; trust that the time to finish it will be given sometime, and keep a quiet heart about it."

~Annie Keary, 1825-1879 (qtd in Keep a Quiet Heart, p. 9) (from Girltalk)

First Day of School!

We had a great first day of school! I still can't believe my little baby girl is a Kindergartner!!! She is growing way too fast! She did her math, phonics, penmanship, among other things. We also did a nature walk and made a collection jar for all of the treasures they found on our vacation.
Anna thinks that she is in Kindergarten too! She loves having her own desk and keeps telling me that she wants to learn all of her letters.
I'm looking forward to a wonderful year!

Back in Cyber Land

First our internet was out, then we were camping, then we were beaching (I know that's not really a word), and in between I've been cleaning and packing, and unpacking, and more cleaning, and laundry, and lesson planning, and organizing, setting up a school room, becoming a tutor and a homeschool Mom (more on that later). . . It hasn't left much time for blogging. (or emailing my friends, I'm sorry. :( ) I will soon be caught up on life then I will blog and catch you all up on my 5 million pictures from this summer that I haven't posted! I know you are on the edge of your seat! In the mean time I will leave you with this picture of the cousins on sea shore!
